The Strickland Scholarship is a prestigious annual bursary scheme organised by South West College, in conjunction with Strickland Tracks. The scheme will provide bursaries of up to £2,500 each per year to students undertaking a Foundation Degree or HND/C in Engineering at South West College.

2. Eligibility Criteria
(i) Students must:
Demonstrate how they have contributed positively to their community / benefitted their local community; for example through sport, their work with church groups or voluntary work.
Be a fee paying student on Foundation Degree or HND/C course in Engineering at SWC in the academic year 2018/19.
Demonstrate fully how receiving the scholarship would make a difference to their lives by assisting the achievement of their qualification and progressing their career.
Not previously been in receipt of an SWC scholarship (only one scholarship will be paid per student).
3. Identification and Selection
Application forms from students must be fully completed and forwarded on or before the closing date of 8th March 2017 to Sheila.email@example.com . Downloadable application forms will be available from SWC Staff and Student Gateway > Student hub > Higher Education > HE Scholarships > Strickland Scholarship Folder or by email from Sheila.firstname.lastname@example.org .
A panel from South West College and Strickland Tracks will be established and will identify students eligible for receipt of the Scholarship based upon the selection criteria, including academic ability. The panel will rank order the list of candidates who have applied. Scholarships will then be offered to the four highest rated SWC applicants.
4. Scholarship Offers
After consideration by the panel, South West College will contact applicants identified by the panel regarding a formal Scholarship offer. The successful candidates must accept the Scholarship offer within one week, or the offer will be withdrawn. The right to withdraw an offer is maintained, where information given by the applicant is false, misleading or incomplete.
5. Conditions Attached to Scholarship Offers
Every applicant to whom a Scholarship is offered must fulfil the terms and conditions of the Scholarship, together with the entry requirements for the course. Scholarship holders will be expected to fulfil the regulations stipulated by South West College and undergo all compulsory examinations as required for their course.
If the applicant is already in receipt of:
(i) a scholarship awarded by another scholarship or trust
(ii) any award paid by a public body or
(iii) the equivalent in another EU member state,
their application for this scholarship may be affected (this does not include any statutory support (for example a student loan from the Student Loan Company) granted to an eligible student taking a designated higher education course. The impact of existing scholarships/awards will be at the discretion of the panel.
6. Value of Scholarship
The total value of the Scholarship is £10,000 for the academic year 2018/19 to be allocated at the discretion of the panel.
7. Payment of Scholarship
The Scholarship holder will be paid the scholarship in two instalments during the academic year. The first instalment will be paid by South West College after the selection process. The Scholarship holder will then be advised of further payment date.
8. Termination or Deferral of the Scholarship
The Scholarship shall be terminated if a student has abandoned his/her course or has been expelled from the course or from SWC. A student shall be deemed to have abandoned the course if he/she is absent for a period of 60 days or more.
A Scholarship holder who wishes to change course during the course of his/her studies, must obtain prior written approval of the College. Where a student changes course onto another eligible course, the remaining Scholarship payments (if any) will be deferred until the student reaches the same level at which participation on the original course ceased.
Subsequent scholarship instalments are dependent on satisfactory academic performance.
Students with outstanding course fees will not be eligible for subsequent scholarship instalments.
