Fermanagh Lakeland Lodges have been in business for over 25 years providing high quality self-catering accommodation on a stunning 90 acre family run estate which incorporates the beautiful Muckross Wood, on the shores of Lower Lough Erne. They also offer various outdoor activities which include: walking, mountain biking, fishing, tennis, water sports, boating and canoeing providing a combination of activity and relaxation.


The growth of the company is currently hamstrung by capacity. Fermanagh Lakeland Lodges have identified an opportunity to offer a new forms of accommodation which will increase capacity. The recent emergence of “glamping” as new market within the tourism industry has been the catalyst for this idea.


This idea consists of a unique innovative form of accommodation similar to an eco-pod. The design will encompass many features with sustainable construction and energy efficiency as key elements.  The main structure will be made from timber frame to incorporate high spec insulation.


The result was the delivery of three design concepts along with a comprehensive analysis of construction, insulation, renewable energy and sustainable technologies. There was also a cost analysis carried out for the corresponding materials and technologies. This report has taken the idea to the next junction on the path to capturing increase growth with contrasting new accommodation offering.
