Ruth turns College Course into a Lifelong Ambition

Ruth Johnston, a mum of three, returned to education as a mature student at South West College (SWC) in June 2012. Hoping to pursue a future career in childcare, Ruth enrolled on a two-year vocational BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Children’s Care Learning and Development. This course offers individuals a vocational pathway aligning with the knowledge and skills that employers seek and allowed Ruth to pursue her studies close to her home in Ballynakelly, Coalisland. Fast forward to 2021, and after her studies and despite the worldwide pandemic, Ruth is ready to embark on her next venture as a registered childminder.

Award-Winning Local Student Lauren ‘Earns While She Learns’ at SWC

Lauren Crozier from Omagh is following her passion for Engineering and ‘Earning while she Learns’ at South West College (SWC), Omagh. Lauren is studying the Ulster University Foundation Degree in Engineering with Specialism in Mechatronics, part-time. This allows her to work full-time as a Higher Level Apprentice (HLA) at Scotts Bakery, Fivemiletown, ensuring that she can gain her bachelor’s degree without accumulating any tuition fee debt along the way.

Award Winning Student Thankful for Culture of Creativity at South West College

Omagh screenwriter and former South West College (SWC) student, Aidan McAleer, won three screenwriting awards last year. Aidan won 'Best First-time Screenwriter' at the Kosice International Monthly Film Festival; 'Best Feature Script' at the Prague International Monthly Film Festival'; and ‘Best Screenplay' at the Canadian Cinematography Awards, for his screenplay, 'Forgiven', which tells an emotional story of accidental manslaughter and the swirling guilt and aftermath that follows it.

Childcare Course at South West College Leads to employment for local Samantha

Samantha Kerrigan from Castlederg studied the City and Guilds Level 2 and Level 3 Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning and Development at South West College, Omagh Campus, where the qualifications and experience she gained led to a full-time job at a local primary school.

Joseph Doyle (18) from Moortown, has just begun a Higher Education Ulster University Foundation Degree in Science in Computing at South West College’s (SWC) Dungannon Campus and was incredibly ‘proud’ to have been recently awarded the inaugural Chief Executive Scholarship Award in Science and Computing.  Joseph is amongst a prestigious group of students to receive the awards which were launched last year.

Former South West College Student now working on the NHS Frontline

Inspiring local Armagh woman, Jacinta Kelly (44), a former South West College (SWC) Access student and mum of three has recently graduated with a First-Class Honours BSC in Nursing at Queens University Belfast. Jacinta is currently employed as a Theatre Nurse at the Southern Health and Social Care Trust (SHSCT) and has been redeployed to the front-line Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to Covid-19.

South West College (SWC) are now taking applications for a brand new Foundation Degree in Cyber Security due to commence September 2021 at the Colleges new Erne Campus, Enniskillen. The course will also be delivered province wide through blended learning.

School Leavers Encouraged to Explore Options at South West College Virtual Open Days

South West College (SWC) is set to welcome prospective students and their parents to an exciting range of Virtual Open Days for Full-Time and Apprenticeship courses starting in September. The Virtual Open days will take the format of interactive online webinars with a live Q+A function and will be hosted live on You Tube Premiere. Students are encouraged to pre-register for the events from the 12 January 2021 and should log on to the Colleges website at www.swc.ac.uk to pre-register and attend the virtual events.
