South West College Launch New Fibre Optic Installer Academy

A new Fibre Optic Installer Academy, funded through the Department for the Economy's Skills Intervention Programme, will be delivered by South West College, starting in April. The programme has been created as part of the Government's response to COVID-19 recovery for the economy.                     
 
South West College, in partnership with Vibreoptix, are recruiting for those affected by COVID-19, either by being unable to work or having been unemployed during the pandemic. 
 
The ten-week programme, beginning in April, will enable the applicant to obtain the skills to become a Fiber Network operator/installer with the possibility of securing full time employment. For the duration of the training, they will be a paid training allowance of £150 per week. The qualification will be delivered one day per week and the practical training will be delivered over the remaining four days through work placement and training with Vibreoptix. 
 
To be eligible for the programme, applicants should have a minimum Level 2 Qualification; GCSE Maths (although, in certain circumstances, several years industry experience in electrical/electronic may be accepted as equal to this); the right to work in the EU; and an appropriate Visa.
