This BEng (Hons) Engineering Degree programme has been designed with industry objectives at its core. The aim of this programme is to produce graduates who can apply their understanding, knowledge, experience, skills and know-how to create social and economic value within the context of the Northern Ireland and UK economy. The Foundation Degree Visual Media Arts has two pathways, Game Development and Film. Read on to find out about the similarities and differences in the two options. Students should choose the option that appeals to them most, or contact the course director to discuss your options. The Foundation Degree in Visual Media Arts has been designed to allow students to embrace their creativity while learning industry standard processes relevant to the creation of content for the film and game industries. Course design has been informed by extensive consultation with industry experts to ensure that all our graduates are equipped with the skills necessary to succeed in the competitive world of visual media. The course offers a unique fusion of technical knowledge with core artistic principles with a strong emphasis on the practical skills sought after by industry employers. Modules will provide students with an understanding of core creative concepts, extensive training in the use of industry standard software tools and ultimately the ability to become fluent in the creation of content for video games or films. Students can choose to specialise in one of two key areas:
  • Film production
  • Game development
  • The programme offers a range of specialised modules that will empower students to exit the course with a very robust and employable portfolio.

The course is aimed at those working in the engineering industry and seeking an academic progression route whilst continuing to work. It is also designed for persons who want to formalise the skills already acquired in the industry or those wishing to re-skill. Applications are welcome from those not currently in employment but with the expectation that they will obtain suitable employment before the course commences.In addition to this, the course is also aimed at full-time students completing A-Levels, BTEC National Diplomas or Level 3 Apprenticeships who wish to continue their academic and professional career in Engineering while working in the local engineering sector.This course provides a nationally recognised qualification offering career progression and professional development.
