Systems included Mechanical braking systems, Mechanical fuel systems etc. Now, whilst cars still rely on the same fundamental Mechanical systems these systems have an additional Electronic element bolted on, so whilst the braking action is Mechanically the same, a computer also monitors the braking process to prevent wheel lock (skidding) - a system known as ABS (anti-lock braking systems). Secondly whilst fuel is still injected into the engine Mechanically a computer monitors how much fuel is going in to improve efficiency - a system known as drive by wire Electronic fuel injection systems.
