The Level 2 Painting and decorating qualification is designed to equip learners with the knowledge and skills to pursue a career within the Construction industry. Thus it is necessary for applicants to be in appropriate employment or work placement. The course supports the knowledge and Skills development requirements for access at all levels into the Painting and decorating working environment.

Additional Information

You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and ICT at an appropriate level if you do not have a GCSE grade C or Level 2 Essential Skills in English, Maths and Information Technology. You will also study broader transferable skills in Employability and Personal and Social Development where appropriate.

Course Content

You will learn the essential practical skills and knowledge necessary to enable you to gain employment in this field. These are covered in a range of practical and theory modules covering: prepare and protect the work and surrounding area, prepare a range of surfaces - wood, metal and plastered surfaces, apply paint by brush and roller, apply coverings to ceilings and walls, erect and dismantle access working platforms, prepare for and apply specialist decorative finishes, apply stencils, apply paint systems by use of HVLP spray equipment and apply paint systems by the airless spray method.

Assessment Method

There are no formal examinations for this qualification. The course is assessed through a series of competence based assessments within College and the work place.

Progression Opportunities

Achievement of this qualification will enable the learner to follow a career in Painting & Decorating with progression routes up to Level 3. .
