The course is designed to equip individuals with knowledge, understanding and practical skills required for success in a range of mechanical and electrical engineering related occupations. This course comprises a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Engineering alongside both NVQ Level 2 and NVQ Level 3.

Additional Information

For those not having IT at GCSE it will be compulsory to undertake Essential skills at level 2 in ICT.

Course Content

There are a wide variety of modules to follow and from these learners will gain the knowledge, skills and aptitudes to progress into employment or progress into higher level courses. Modules include: Health and Safety in Engineering, Engineering Project, Communications for Engineering Technicians, Electro, pneumatic and hydraulic systems and Electrical and Electronic Principles.

Assessment Method

There are two separate assessment methods throughout the course. The academic BTEC assessments are 100% coursework based and will be primarily be carried out by the use of projects and assignments throughout the duration of the course. The more practical NVQ element of the course will be assessed in college and from work based visits.

Progression Opportunities

Upon successful completion candidates can progress to the Level 4 HNC or to the Level 5 HLA (Higher Level Apprenticeship) Foundation Degree in Manufacturing Engineering or Mechatronics.

Entry Requirements

6 GCSEs at grades A* - C including Mathematics and English or equivalent. Entry is also subject to: Successful interview, Psychometric test and employment with suitable company.
