Course Content
This course comprises of a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering alongside both NVQ Level 2 and NVQ Level 3 qualifications. This is designed to equip individuals with knowledge, understanding and practical skills required for success in a range of mechanical and electrical engineering Technician related occupations.

Assessment Method
There are two separate assessment methods throughout the course. The academic BTEC assessments are 100% coursework based and will be primarily be carried out by the use of projects and assignments throughout the duration of the course. These will offer opportunities to achieve Pass, Merit, and Distinction criteria, and will be tracked though the year to form one final grade for each unit, and an end of year grade for the overall course. The more practical NVQ element of the course will be assessed in college at level 2 and from ‘work based visits’ where by you achieve the qualification by producing evidence of the work you are doing on your placement to satisfy pre-determined criteria at Level 3.
Progression Opportunities
Having successfully completed the GOLD program candidates can progress onto the Level 4 HNC or in most cases direct entry onto the Level 5 HLA (Higher Level Apprenticeship) Foundation Degree in Manufacturing Engineering or Mechatronics. The entire program is co-ordinated at South West College, the only college in Northern Ireland to achieve a Grade 1 outstanding grade in a recent ETI inspection for teaching and leadership. On Completion of the Level 5 HLA articulation is available to the level 6 Degree.
