This BEng (Hons) Engineering Degree programme has been designed with industry objectives at its core. The aim of this programme is to produce graduates who can apply their understanding, knowledge, experience, skills and know-how to create social and economic value within the context of the Northern Ireland and UK economy. It aims to produce graduates who understand the underlying principles which underpin engineering, who can to conceive, design and implement a solution to a problem, creating something new which adds value to an organisation and society, within the boundaries of organisational strategy.

Students are required to:

  • Submit all coursework and assessments by specified dates, coursework submitted without consent after the deadline shall not normally be accepted.
  • Pass all modules in each year of study in order to proceed to the next year of the programme.
  • *The minimum overall pass mark of 40% is required to be achieved in all modules.

    The objective is to develop graduates who:

  • Work pragmatically to solve problems and have strategies for being creative and innovative, overcoming difficulties by employing their skills, knowledge and understanding in a flexible manner
  • Are risk, cost and value-conscious, and aware of their ethical, social, cultural, environmental, health and safety, and wider professional responsibilities
  • Are familiar with the nature of business and enterprise and operate within appropriate codes of conduct
  • Are professional in their outlook, capable of team working, effective communicators, and able to exercise responsibility and sound management approaches.

    Assessment Method

    Assessment is varied and broadly aligned to the skills which are prevalent in the engineering industry. This will include, but is not limited to, a range of activities such as reports, presentations, group work, project based learning activities, lab work, practical’s and exams.

    Progression Opportunities

    On Successful completion of this Honours Degree, you will be in a position to go straight into a job commensurate with a degree level education. You will also be in a position to progress onto a Masters degree programme with another institution.

    Entry Requirements

    The Honours Degree Top Up top up will be available to any candidate who satisfies the criteria below:

  • a University of Ulster or Queens University Belfast Foundation Degree with a pass mark of 55% or above in L5 modules. (or other relevant L5 qualification such as a Pearsons Higher National Certificate/Diploma) in an engineering related discipline.
  • Candidates presenting with FDs or HNC/Ds from other awarding bodies will be considered under RPL procedures · GCSE English language and Maths at grade 4 (grade C) or above. (or equivalent, - for example, Level 2 literacy and numeracy Essential Skills qualifications are also accepted).
  • All applicant must have reached the age of 18 years on admission.

    International Student Entry Requirements

    International students must meet the general entrance requirements for admission to any College First Degree, Foundation Degree or Higher National Diploma. English language requirements for international applicants is Academic IELTS 6.0 with no band score less than 5.5. Trinity ISE – Pass at Level 3 also meets this requirement for Tier 4 visa purposes.
