Description

The Photography & Graphic Design Higher Education Pathway at South West College is taught within the Pearson BTEC HNC/D Art and Design RQF Level4/5 Specification, and is a 2-year course split into two 1 year elements. / The HNC/D Photography & Graphic Design is a unique Commercially driven course with an exciting blend of employer engagement, industry collaboration and contemporary design projects. The course is designed to produce industry-ready graduates who can think and execute design solutions across the range of print and digital formats. / This client and project-led course will teach you the elements of visual design for both web and print delivery. You will work on creative live briefs to ensure you have practical experience of the design processes.

Course Content

You will study a variety of units during this two year period including Digital Technology, Branding, Digital Photography, Animation, Graphic Design, Motion Graphics Advertising Photography. And Fashion Photography. A typical unit within the course will consist of initial research, experimentation, generating ideas for a brief, developing ideas, presenting ideas to a client, using client feedback to refine ideas, and presenting a final outcome in response to a brief. Each unit is designed to be delivered as a project, based on commercial outcomes. Driven by real clients. / Studying with us will offer you the opportunity to be part of a creative community where you can reflect on and react to the changing nature of your discipline, and develop as an individual confident in undertaking any visual based problem. / You will begin Your Graphic Design and Photographic journey by being introduced to The Adobe Range of Industry Standard software’s, and will be expected to build upon these skills throughout the course. A series of industry talks and educational and team building visits are conducted over the 2-year period to allow you to develop your commercial awareness and allow for informed decision making at the point of exit.

Assessment Method

Assessment is through practical projects, where students tackle a range of client-initiated briefs, design competitions, and studio projects.  The curriculum mixes research, problem-solving and teamwork skills with theory and practice in areas such as typography, colour, layout, publishing, and creative advertising. This will include the production of 2D and 3D work with accompanying sketchbooks and written work. This will culminate in a final major project and end-of-the-year show. There are no formal examinations.

Progression Opportunities

The BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma in Art & Design offers a progression route for learners on successful completion of the course. Students may also progress to other universities to complete a degree in associated studies. / Usually being accepted onto their second or third year dependent on portfolio, interview and satisfactory completion of the course. / The course is designed to prepare students for Direct entry into the workplace.

Entry Requirements

Successful Completion of the Pearson BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Art and Design. (Photography & Graphic Design).
