Description

The Photography & Graphic Design Higher Education Pathway at South West College is taught within the Pearson BTEC HNC/D Art and Design RQF Level4/5 Specification, and is a 2-year course split into two 1 year elements. The HNC/D Photography & Graphic Design is a unique commercially driven course with an exciting blend of employer engagement, industry collaboration and contemporary design projects. The course is designed to produce industry-ready graduates who can think and execute design solutions across the range of print and digital formats. This client and project-led course will teach you the elements of visual design for both web and print delivery.You will work on creative live briefs to ensure you have practical experience of the design processes.

Submit all coursework and assessments by specified dates, coursework submitted without consent after the deadline shall not normally be accepted.

The minimum overall pass mark of 40% is required to be achieved in all modules.

Assessment Method

Assessment is through practical projects, where students tackle a range of client-initiated briefs, design competitions, and studio projects. The curriculum mixes research, problem-solving and teamwork skills with theory and practice in areas such as typography, colour, layout, publishing, and creative advertising. This will include the production of 2D and 3D work with accompanying sketchbooks and written work. This will culminate in a final major project and end-of-the-year show. There are no formal examinations.

Progression Opportunities

The BTEC Level 4 HNC Diploma in Art & Design offers a progression route for learners to further study on a BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma in Art & Design. On successful completion of the course students may also progress to other universities to complete their degree, usually being accepted onto their second or third year dependent on portfolio, interview and satisfactory completion of the course.
