Description

This course is aimed at anyone interested in gaining or improving their graphic design skills - whether they already have some design experience, are keen to learn the basics or simply have an interest in the subject. Under the guidance of an experienced and multi award winning designer, students will receive a solid grounding in the disciplines, methods and technical aspects of graphic design, layout and typography, allowing the student to rapidly become proficient and knowledgable in design - and, with a project and practical led basis to the course - the ability to create their own high quality design work.

Additional Information

This qualification comprises two units of the NOCN Level 3 Award in Skills for Employment, Training and Personal Development (QCF). This course is designed for learners to gain an overview of key skills and areas of knowledge in order to inform further study and/or employment choices. This is a Level 3 qualification and has an award value of 8 credits under the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).

Progression Opportunities

Progression opportunities include Higher Education courses in Graphic Design, including South West College’s own Foundation Degree in Graphic and Product Design, and also to a range of Higher Education courses in other disciplines. Progression directly into employment or self-employment is also an option.

Entry Requirements

The course is ideal for AS and A Level Art & Design students who intend to follow a design based course or career path, and is intended to compliment the AS / A Level art through giving the student further skills and a high level portfolio project. The course is equally suitable for those in a business environment where profile and professional appearance is vital to potential customers, while, of course, simply providing an opportunity for anyone with an interest in design to learn more about the subject while also creating their own design work.
