Description

The BTEC First Diploma in Sport is a one year, full time, practical, work related course. This course is designed to provide a broad understanding of the areas of exercise, fitness and sports development. Learners will be required to complete projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations.

Course Content

Learners are required to complete a range of units including: Fitness for Sport and Exercise; Practical Sports Performance; Mind and Sports Performance; Sports Performer in Action; Training for Personal Fitness; Leading Sports Activities; Anatomy and Physiology; Injury and the Sports Performer.

Assessment Method

A wide variety of assessment methods are used including written documents, practical assessments, presentations, logbooks, use of video evidence, open-book tests, leaflets/brochures, etc. Most units are set and marked by tutors on the course, however, some units are assessed by external exam.

Progression Opportunities

Progression is to the Level 3 90-Credit Diploma in Sport, the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and from there onto relevant Higher Education Courses, for example, the HND in Sport within the College. Career pathways include Sports Nutrition, Sports Coaching, Personal Trainer, Leisure and/or Events Management, Fitness Instructor.

Entry Requirements

Standard entry requirements are a minimum of six points at GCSE (3 Grade Ds) or equivalent.
