This course will build upon a strong interest learners already have in Performing Arts to develop their skills and understanding with the aim of preparing them to progress to Higher Education or to enter the industry directly. The course is practically focused to develop expertise in the areas of Drama, Technical Theatre, Music and Dance. Through the College's links with the Burnavon Theatre learners will receive industry standard experience.
Musical Theatre; Developing Voice for the Actor; International Dance; Historical Context of Performance; Film and TV Acting; Auditions for Actors; Performing Arts Business; Rehearsing for Performance; Practice of Directing Theatre.
As a practically focused, vocational course, assessment will be carried out by the use of performances, projects and coursework assignments throughout the duration of the course. These will offer opportunities to achieve Pass, Merit, and Distinction grades, and will be tracked though the year to form one final grade.
Progression opportunities include access to Higher Education courses in Performing and Creative Arts and also to a range of Higher Education courses in other disciplines. Progression directly into employment or self-employment is also an option. Successful learners leave this course with well-developed skills highly sought after by employers such as teamwork, communication, planning and organisation, and creativity.
Four GCSEs grade C or above, including Maths and English. Entry is subject to a successful interview.
