The Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care is ideal for care workers who have some responsibility for other staff in their workplace and sometimes work without supervision. Learners may want to develop or demonstrate skills, perhaps to become a senior care worker.
Learners are required to achieve a minimum of 58 credits, 28 of which must be taken from the mandatory units in group A and the remaining credits taken from Group B and C. Examples of mandatory units include: Communication; Personal development; Health and safety. Examples of Option B group units include: Understand the process and experience of dementia; Physical disability; and Infection Control. Examples of Option C units include: Physiological measurements; Pressure area care; and Support in the administration of medicines.
Assessment is mainly through observation in the work place. Knowledge evidence will be assessed through written assignments and/or oral and written questions.
Learners may wish to progress into employment as a senior care worker. They may also wish to undertake the Level 5 qualification in advanced practice.
Learners must have a Level 2 qualification in Health and Social Care or at least one year's experience in the care field. All learners must provide evidence of a clear Access NI record.
