| News >£25,000 Scholarship for South West College student |
|
South West College, Omagh Campus, student Raymond Todd is gearing up for a once in a lifetime trip to Kansas City, in central America where he will spend an academic year at the Benedictine College and work with industry leaders in the state.
Raymond, a Full Time Foundation Degree in Construction Engineering student, has been selected for this experience through the Business Education Initiative (BEI), which is run by the British Council. The Scholarship includes Raymond’s tuition fees, flights, college accommodation, meals and study materials, and should total around £25,000. The programme aims to develop the academic skills of students, help talented young people realise their ambitions and assist Northern Ireland communities by broadening their cultural horizons. |
This great journey will begin in the final week of August, when Raymond flies out to America. He will be placed in the College dorms and follow five modules each semester. After his academic year, Raymond will gain some valuable work experience by completing an internship with a regional business before flying back home in May 2010.
As you would expect, Raymond is delighted by this prospect and cannot wait for his year to begin.

“Back in November when I had the first interview I can remember being quite nervous and I thought they asked a few unusual questions but now I am just looking forward to getting there. I know this will be a great experience for me and I plan to make the most of it.”
