Wind Turbine Lecturer invited to present at the energy show 2011

Stuart Morrow, a lecturer in wind power at South West College and a member of the College’s InnoTech team was guest speaker at a seminar entitled ‘Wind Energy – Opportunities for Irish Businesses’ at the Energy Show 2011, a two day event which took place at the RDS in Dublin on 30th – 31st March.
The Energy Show is the annual flagship event for key actors in the Irish energy sector, hosting a range of seminars highlighting topical developments facing the sector. The event was organised by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), the national energy authority central to all aspects of the Irish sustainable energy agenda, with a mission to play a leading role in transforming Ireland into a society based on sustainable energy structures, technologies and practices.
The seminars were attended by professionals in the commercial, industrial and public sectors keen to learn more about energy saving opportunities for their organisations as well as the latest business opportunities available in Ireland’s transition towards a low carbon economy. Other guest speakers at the seminar included Brian Ash (Cell Energy) and Declan Collins (Cwind).
Stuart presented on the practicalities for installing a small scale wind turbine, an area of growth in Ireland due to the demand for clean, remote and responsibly generated energy. Wind turbine technology is also an area of specialism within South West College and the InnoTech Centre, who have been facilitating and leading wind turbine installers training for the last five years, attracting over 500 participants. Through the InnoTech Centre, the College is at the forefront of wind turbines and system design, working with a number of leading companies within Ireland and the UK and the College also offers a Foundation Degree in Wind Turbine Technology, accredited by the University of Ulster.
The InnoTech Centre also provides a focus in the emerging skills areas of environmental sustainability, engineering, product design and prototyping. For further information on South West College or the InnoTech Centre, please call 0845 603 1881 or visit www.swc.ac.uk or www.theinnotechcentre.com
