SWC’S GOT TALENT

Almost 50 Performing Arts students from South West College showcased their talents at the Craic Theatre in Coalisland recently when they hosted their annual talent show.
First and second year students from the Extended Diploma in Performing Arts, part-time links students, as well as special guest appearances by students from the Foundation Degree in Performing Arts collaborated to perform a range of stunning musical and dance performances, show-stopping theatre, comedy and specialist acts.
The audience was treated to a spectacular two hour show, which portrayed a number of solo performances from students as well as some serious drama pieces (some of which were written by the students on issues such as dementia, European post-war and drugs in today’s society) as well as a number of comedy sketches!
There was also a medley of dance performances from around the world; Bollywood; burlesque; Angolan; Brazilian; modern and contemporary, all of which highlighted the diverse cultural backgrounds of the students studying Performing Arts at the College.
The Foundation Degree students also provided a taster for their upcoming musical theatre show ‘Dancing Down Broadway’, which will run in the Burnavon Arts Theatre (Cookstown) on 30th April 2012.
Some performers were no strangers to the stage having performed with the European Ballet; Sutemos Youth Dance Group; World, European-Masters and All-Ireland Dance Championships as well as some who have auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent! For others, this show marked their first public performance but they were thrilled with the reaction of the audience and are indeed excited about future performances!
