Local Apprentices' Success at the UK Skillbuild Finals
13 young apprentices from Northern Ireland competed in the UK National SkillBuild finals on 14th – 16th September at Leeds College of Building. All the Northern Ireland team members qualified for the UK National finals by competing at the SkillBuild Northern Ireland competition held in South Eastern Regional College (SERC) earlier this year. Amongst the categories represented were joinery, carpentry, cabinet making, painting & decorating and roof slating and tiling.
Local apprentices, Philip Glasgow (tutored by Tony McGartland) and Mark Woods (tutored by Gary Mullan) represented South West College, Omagh Campus in the competition, with Philip winning Gold in the carpentry section and Mark winning Bronze in the wall and floor tiling competition. Philip and Mark will be called to join the UK team for the 2013 world finals selection in Germany.
