Hair Raising Competition

There was an air of excitement at South West College on Monday 11th April as aspiring hairdressing students brought their scissors, clips, rollers and hairspray to the Dungannon Campus for the College’s annual inter-campus hairdressing competition.
The students from the Dungannon, Enniskillen and Omagh Campuses went head to head to compete in 6 diverse and challenging categories including: Day Style; Creative Colour; Full Fashion Look; Creative Fantasy; Ladies Hair by Night; Gent’s Cut and Blow Dry, with each themed category designed to test their latest cutting, colouring, creativity and technical hairdressing skills.
The hairdressers, who competed under strict time constraints and were watched on by their supporters and spectators in the audience, were assessed by guest judges Leslie Meredith (Proprietor of Halo Colour Loft and Nail Bar, Moira), John Miller (Deputy Manager of M&G Hair Salon, Lurgan), Danielle McGrath (Manager of Scruples Hair and Beauty, Banbridge) and Richard Purdy (Training Manager at Scruples Hair and Beauty, Banbridge).
Commenting on the event, Elizabeth Shackels, Curriculum Manager for Professional Services at South West College said:
“Judging by the reception the competitors received from the audience and the exceptional comments from the judges, everyone has been hugely impressed by the standard and quality of workmanship and artistic skill demonstrated in each category. Each competitor has contributed to the success of the competition, making it a very enjoyable and memorable event.”
