Web Analytics

Google Analytics is the web analysis tool used at South West College. It is used to monitor the traffic to the site, to collect information about how users are using the site and to produce reports for business and marketing purposes. The information gathered is not used to identify or target individual users.

However, Google Analytics creates cookies on your machine. Google Analytics creates 4 cookies on a user’s machine. The cookies collect information about how the site is used, the number of visitors to the site, where visitors have come from and the pages they visit while on our site. utmb – Google Analytics stores IP address anonymously on its servers in the US, no website or service associate your IP address with any personally identifiable information.

NID – This is a Google Map cookie that stores your preferences and expires 6 months after your last visit to a page containing a Google Map.

PREF – Is a Google Map cookie that stores options such as zoom level for maps.

utmv –This cookie passes information which you use to create a custom user segment. This string is then passed to the Analytics servers in the GIF request URL via the utmc parameter.

GoogleAccountsLocale_session – Secure cookies are only transmitted via HTTPS - which you will typically find in the checkout pages of online shopping sites. This ensures that any data in the cookie will be encrypted as it passes between the website and the browser.
