Success for SWC at The Plaisterers’ Training Awards 2016

The 18th Annual Plaisterers’ Training Awards were held at Plaisterers’ Hall in London. The event was attended by the Lord Mayor, Alderman Lord Moutevans and over 170 other guests. The awards represent the plastering and dry-lining trade, Training Colleges, Independent Training Providers, City Livery Companies. With particular links to organisations actively involved in construction skills training. Daniel McAteer represented South West College; he was nominated by one of his lectures Noel McIntyre, from the Omagh campus.

Gold Medal for Stuart at SWC at Skillbuild UK

SkillBuild is the largest multi-trade competition in the UK, it has been on the go for over forty-five years, the UKs most talented apprentices compete against each other to be awarded SkillBuild champion in their chosen trade and be part of the UK team.

SWC Students Depart for Sweden

A group of 12 students from South West College are currently attending a three week work placement with their lectures in Helsingborg, Sweden funded through Erasmus+. There are six Childcare Learning Development and six Health and Social Care students from across all three SWC campuses. They were placed in a variety of organisations on their related discipline. Child Care students were placed at an International School in Helsingborg in both pre-primary and primary classes, whilst Health Care students experienced work in three different care homes and special needs centres.

Opportunities in Digital Manufacturing

The CREST Centre, at South West College will host an ‘Opportunities in Digital Manufacturing’ event on Tuesday 22nd November 2016 at 10.00am.  The event will be a forum for discussion and networking in relation to current trends in manufacturing such as; 3D Printing, Product Design, Advanced Manufacturing, Industry 4.0 and the Internet of Things.

EuroSTEAM project made possible after securing Erasmus+ funding.

South West College has been successful in gaining Erasmus+ funding for the EuroSTEAM project. The
project kicked off with a partner meeting on 26th October 2016, hosting the participants of the project in South West College Stem Centre in Dungannon. The hosted partners included Italy, Spain, Portugal and Belgium.

Wayne Denner, Entrepreneur, Influencer, Educator and Expert on Digital Media

Wayne Denner an influential speaker, author and expert in Online Reputation and Wellbeing. Wayne’s message was to learn to protect and improve your personal digital presence. He set up Ireland’s First Social Network platform in the early noughties before Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, and Bebo. Wayne is an Entrepreneur, Educator and Trainer, he is known for his engaging approach with young people and businesses.

The University Roadshow Northern Ireland rocked up at SWC campuses to provide students with information on universities in Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales and Europe. University Roadshow NI is part of Education Recruitment & Marketing which offer specialised consultancy on education for undergraduate and postgraduate students, teacher recruitment and nursing and healthcare recruitment.

Fresher’s Fayre

South West College recently held their Fresher Fayre at Dungannon, Enniskillen and Omagh campuses. The fayre seen another year of excellent turn out from students and trade stands filled with information and freebies for students, such as pens, pencils, thermal mugs, wrist bands, frisbees and free pizza.

South West College Awarded €1 million Erasmus+ Funding

South West College (SWC) has successfully secured €1 million of Erasmus+ funding in this year’s funding round. The College, which has a strong history of European exchanges and partnerships, is now positioned as one of the UK’s leading organisations in Erasmus+ projects achieving funding under all three key actions covered by the programme; Higher Education, Vocational Education, and Youth Development.
