Fresher’s Fayre

Fresher’s Fayre
October, 2016
South West College recently held their Fresher Fayre at Dungannon, Enniskillen and Omagh campuses. The fayre seen another year of excellent turn out from students and trade stands filled with information and freebies for students, such as pens, pencils, thermal mugs, wrist bands, frisbees and free pizza.
Translink, Bank of Ireland, Rainbow Project, Health Clinic, Carecall wellbeing and suicide awareness were some stands at the fayre, they had information about discounted travel cards, financial advice, sexual health and safety and wellbeing for students. Along with this vital information they also had freebies which are always a hit students.

PSNI’s stand was extremely busy, they had driver awareness booklets with cheaper insurance ideas and what to do if you are in an accident. They also had beer goggles which show how alcohol can affect vision and balance and a drug awareness display which showed different types of drugs and how they can harm the body and your judgement. There was a great buzz in the Centre Halls with music playing, and students trying to compete in planned activities.

The highlight of the day was Pizza Hut stand in Enniskillen where free pizza slices were given out to all students and Domino’s pizza stand in Dungannon and Omagh, they had a competition to win a free large pizza if you could correctly guess the number of garlic butter tubs in a large bowl. They also arranged a pizza delivery every half hour, in which free pizza slices were given out. This was definitely a highlight for students and lecturers.

South West College would like to express sincere thanks to all exhibitors for their contribution in making these events a success and taking time to talk and socialise with students. Fresher’s Fayre aims to highlight internal and external sources of support for SWC students and seeks to engage the students in utilising the services available to them.
