South West College has been awarded two prestigious honours at the 15th Annual Plaisterers’ Training Awards ceremony in London recently.  The College was awarded a Regional Certificate in recognition of the leading role it plays in the successful training of students at NVQ Level 2 and 3 in plastering.  The College was one of only 7 Colleges across the UK to receive this award.   The second award was received for the Colleges achievement in educational training at Level 3, the Harmer Trophy (Runner Up).

The Worshipful Company of Plaisterers is one of the ancient livery companies of the City of London and the Awards recognise the highest standards of achievement in training and education within the UK plastering trade.

Entries were invited for two different award categories each fully reflecting crucial aspects of training, education and life-long learning that has now become a priority focus within the British construction industry.

The Lord Mayor said: "I am very pleased to spend my last day as Lord Mayor at the Plaisterers Training Awards 2013, celebrating our excellent training colleges.  They are helping to protect, and pass on, the very highest standards – an important investment in the future of the wider construction industry.  Congratulations to all the colleges and the other Award winners!"

Maria Hackett, Head of Training, attended the event along with Pat O’Hanlon, Deputy Head and Noel McIntyre, Course Co-ordinator for Plastering.

Maria said; "We are delighted with the two very prestigious awards for the Training Department.  This reflects the exceptional high standards reached by the trainees and staff in the Plastering vocational area at the College.  The large number of organisations representing Colleges and Independent organisations from England and Wales presented very strong competition which made our success very welcome."
