The blog, which was launched in January 2016 and offers ‘a new voice from within South West College’, saw off competition from companies such as IKEA and IBM to win the prestigious award in a competition which aims to ‘honour outstanding projects, campaigns and innovations in the field of online communications.’

Local Innovators Recognised at BEST Awards

The BEST Awards recognise innovation in a wide range of areas ranging from creative industries, to visual design and life sciences being cultivated by students and lecturers across Northern Ireland’s six Further Education Colleges.

South West College IT Trainees Take on Dragons Den

Fourteen students who enrolled on the OCR Level 2 Cambridge Technical Diploma in IT in the Dungannon campus also chose to study the additional L2 IT Traineeship pilot qualification.  One of the components of this qualification was the completion of a Project Based Learning module which culminated in a very competitive and enthralling Dragons Den event held in Dungannon campus.

Jungle Eating Challenge Winners at South West College

South West College held a ‘Jungle Challenge’ at each campus Open Day, in conjunction with Jungle NI outside Moneymore. The aim of the challenge was to complete an eating task which consisted of 3 courses, starter was jelly buffalo worms and meal worms, main course consisted of a cracker crickets and dessert was to eat an entire grasshopper.

Following a three day competition hosted at the NEC, Birmingham, the winners for the IMI Skill Auto 2015 competition have been announced with a massive success for South West College Motor Vehicle students.

Connor McGaughey; from Mountfield an NVQ Level 3 Motor Vehicle student at South West College Omagh Campus and an employee of Kelly's Garage Mountfield took home a Gold Medal in the AutoTec competition. His classmate Seamus Goodfellow an employee of Ballina Car Auto Repair won bronze in the same category.

Health & Social Care success for SWC at Worldskills UK Regional Heats

Two local Health & Social Care students Philomena McGoldrick and Janet Jones represented South West College in the WorldSkills UK Regional heats in Birmingham recently.  Both girls performed outstandingly, with Philomena McGoldrick securing 3nd place overall in her regional heat.  Philomena and Janet are currently studying a QCF Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care at SWC Omagh Campus.  Both students were chosen by their tutors to enter this year’s WorldSkills UK.  This is the College’s first endeavour into the competition in the Health & Social category.
