Description

This course has a broad application, from school leavers and national diploma learners to employees wanting to up-skill. Learners will complete all core modules in their first year and then choose a specialism in their second year. Specialist subjects include Wind Turbine Technology, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, and Manufacturing Engineering. The course focuses on common core engineering disciplines and skills and then incorporates topics relevant to each specialism.

Core modules include: Mathematics for Engineering; Electrical and Electronic Principles; Introduction to Engineering; Hydraulics and Pneumatics; Materials and Manufacturing Processes; CAD and Project; Engineering Science; Mechanical Technology. Specialised modules - Manufacturing: Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing; Design for Manufacture; Programming Concepts and Robotics; Manufacturing Systems. Automotive: Automotive Technology; Engine and Vehicle Design and Performance; Automotive Electronics; Clean Energy Transportation and Infrastructure. Mechatronics: Digital Electronics; PLC; Programming Concepts and Robotics; Hardware and Networking; Wind: Safety Practices; Social and Economic Aspects of Renewable Energy; Site Design for Wind Turbines; Wind Turbine System.

Assessment Method

This course is primarily assessed by coursework and examination, with a focus on work-based projects.
