Description

Embarking upon a career in Energy and Building Services can open a wide variety of career choices, for example, a career path that can lead you into a mechanical, electrical or renewable engineering aspect of a building's envelope. Building Services Engineers also have a growing role in the deployment of renewable energy systems, sustainability and energy efficiency in buildings. You will be playing a key role in delivering a low carbon environment which will aid in combating climate change, fossil fuel depletion.

Course Content

Course modules: Year 1: Sustainable Construction 1; Emerging Technologies & CADD 1; Emerging Technologies & CADD 2; Numerical and Analytical Methods; Science for Sustainable Building Services; Renewable Energy Technologies; Building Services Design and Retrofit (Domestic). Year 2: Work Based Learning; Industrial Project and Entrepreneurship; Design for Sustainable Services (Commercial); Mathematics for Engineers; Project Management and Contract Administration Micro Generation for Renewable Technologies. The programme also involves site visits, guest speakers and specialist laboratory workshops. Learners will also undertake a six month industrial placement giving the opportunity to develop professional skills. Modules are subject to change under revalidation.

Assessment Method

Assessment will be carried out via a variety of assessment methods which includes the use of coursework assignments and end of module examinations as well as group activities and professional presentation. You will also be assessed in the workplace as part of your six month industrial placement.

Progression Opportunities

On successful completion you may progress to Year 2 of the following courses in Ulster University, with exemption from the placement Year 3. You can then complete an Honours Degree within the same four years as a Learner who enrols directly to the university at the beginning of Year 1. BEng/MEng Architectural Engineering or BSc Energy. Consideration may also be given to BSc(Hons) Construction Engineering and Management and BSc (Hons) Building Surveying. You may also transfer to other universities to complete your degree.

48 UCAS points (120 in old UCAS points) - AS / A Level / BTEC qualifications or approved equivalent, GSCE English and Maths at Grade C or approved equivalent. Mature Learners will be assessed on an individual basis. Refer to general entry requirements.
