Description

Design thinking and social marketing are quickly becoming two key processes in the operation of any enterprise. We are living through and are right at the key moment of a change in the way ideas are created and spread and implemented. This course aims to provide graduates with the skills required to research, conceptualise, create and market products in this rapidly changing world. Learners will gain knowledge of industry standards; processes and design techniques of Product and Graphic Design.

During your course you may be required to purchase course text books and incur additional costs for printing, photocopying and binding. The overall additional costs incurred to support your studies may be in the region of £250 per year.

Year 1 modules: Visual Communication; Design Culture and Context; Design Methods and Processes; Creative Business Practice; Introduction to Graphic Design; and Introduction to Product Design. Year 2 modules: * Materials Techniques and Processes; * Virtual Design and Realisation; ** Packaging in Graphic Design; ** Specialist Computer Applications; and Personal and Professional Development. Negotiated Project: Developing and Realising Learners Practice; Supervised Work Based Learning. NB: * denotes modules for product design specialism / ** denotes modules for graphic design specialism.

Assessment Method

The assessment for all modules is 100% coursework, there are no examinations on this foundation degree. Testing of the knowledge base is principally through project based coursework. Concept development, augmented/virtual reality, 3D printing, CAD, CNC, brand, packaging, brochure and logo design.

Progression Opportunities

On successful completion students can apply for entry to BDes (Hons) Product and Furniture Design at Ulster University. Entry to this programme will be based upon successful completion of the foundation degree and also further entry requirements, for example, portfolio assessment and interview.

Entry Requirements

International students must meet the general entrance requirements for admission to any College First Degree, Foundation Degree or Higher National Diploma. English language requirements for international applicants is Academic IELTS 6.0 with no band score less than 5.5. Trinity ISE – Pass at Level 3 also meets this requirement for Tier 4 visa purposes.
