Pearson BTEC Level 3 90-Credit Diploma in Sport (QCF) (Option of Soccer Academy)

Learners will be given a full insight into the sports industry through academic and practical workbased assignments, which have been designed in conjunction with local sport and recreation providers. This course is designed to provide a broad understanding of the areas of exercise, fitness and sports development. A sports academy may be offered in each campus e.g. Soccer, Gaelic or Golf.

Course Content

This Diploma is a practical, work related course. Learners learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. Learners are required to complete all units such as Principles of Anatomy; The Physiology of Fitness; Assessing Risk in Sport; Fitness Training and Programming; Sports Coaching; Sports Development; Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise; Practical Team Sports.

Assessment Method

A wide variety of assessment methods will be used throughout the course, including written documents, practical assessments, presentations, logbooks, use of video evidence, open-book tests, leaflets/brochures, etc. All assignments are set and marked by tutors on the course.

Progression Opportunities

Progress will be to the Extended Diploma in Sport and from there onto relevant Higher Education Courses, for example, the HND in Sport within the College. Career pathways include Sports Nutrition, Sports Coaching, Personal Trainer, Leisure and/or Events Management, Fitness Instructor.

Entry Requirements

Standard requirements are a minimum of four GCSEs (Grade A*-C) or equivalent. Places on the course are limited so it may be necessary to enhance the entry requirements in the event of over subscription. An interview will be required.
