City & Guilds Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Barbering

The NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Barbering is a technical level qualification that provides you with the knowledge, understanding and skills to work as an employed and/or self-employed barber able to work on hair combining a variety of different technical skills. Learners will incorporate college study with work placement to understand the rigours of running a barbering business.

Course Content

There are four mandatory units in this qualification for you to study including: - Provide client consultation services - Creatively cut hair using a combination of barbering techniques - Design and create a range of facial hair shapes - Provide shaving services You will then be able to select a minimum of two optional units from a range of 10 units which includes: provide specialist hair and scalp treatments; colour and lighten men's hair; hair colour correction services. These are decided at the centre's discretion.

Assessment Method

A mixture of practical assessments and on-line tests.

Progression Opportunities

Career opportunities exist in a variety of contexts, including commercial barbershops/salons, employed or self-employed, product manufacturing and training and Cruise liners. There are further learning opportunities available which include VTCT Level 4 Award in Creative Male Grooming, Level 4 Certificate in Salon Management, Level 4 Diploma in Salon Management etc.

Entry Requirements

Learners must have a current NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Barbering or equivalent. Learners will be required to purchase a barbering uniform and kit that is available through the college upon commencement of this programme.
