Description

The Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Wood Occupations is a competence based qualification delivered in conjunction with a Level 3 Diploma (training based). This course is designed to equip learners with the knowledge, skills and understanding required to pursue a Carpentry and Joinery career within the Construction industry. Learners will benefit from tutors with industrial expertise, state of the art facilities and real work experience.

Course Content

The course comprises of a combination of underpinning theory, practical activities, assessments and workplace experience. To achieve this qualification a minimum of 121 credits need to be attained. This comprises the eight mandatory units plus optional units available on request. Some of the mandatory units include: Producing Setting Out Details for Routine Bench/Architectural Joinery Products in the Workplace; Marking Out from Setting Out Details for Routine Bench/Architectural Joinery Products in the Workplace; Manufacturing Routine Bench/Architectural Joinery Products in the Workplace; Confirming Work Activities and Resources for an Occupational Work Area in the Workplace; Developing and Maintaining Good Occupational Working Relationships.

Assessment Method

There are no formal examinations for this qualification. The course is assessed through a series of competence based assessments within the work place and in College.

Progression Opportunities

Achievement of this qualification enhances employment opportunities within a supervisory role as learners are demonstrating occupational competence at this level. It provides opportunities to progress to further qualifications and training at Level 4 or above such as a Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Construction Site Supervision or a Foundation Degree.

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, however, learners must have the potential to successfully gain the qualification. Essential Skills at Level 2 are offered in English and Maths. A work placement is an essential requirement.
