Description

This is an evidence based qualification suitable for those working in the Construction and Civil Engineering Industry who want to pursue a career in Site Supervision, or for Site Supervisors seeking a qualification in recognition of existing skills. Two pathways are available: For Learners involved in Residential Development, Pathway 657703 is available and for Learners working in a Building/Civil Engineering Environment, Pathway 657701 is available.

During your course you may be required to purchase course text books and incur additional costs for printing, photocopying and binding. The overall additional costs incurred to support your studies may be in the region of £250 per year.

Course Content

Achievement of the Level 4 (NVQ) Construction Site Supervision requires the completion of 14 units. Both the Building/Civil Engineering pathway and the Residential Development pathway require the completion of mandatory core units. Mandatory units include: Supply of Materials to Meet Project Requirements; Control of Work Quantities and Costs; Allocating Work and Checking Performance and Allocating use of Plant and Equipment; Planning Work Effectively. In addition, pathway specific units must be completed to achieve the required number of credits to achieve the full qualification.

Assessment Method

Learners must complete a portfolio of evidence for each unit normally compiled from direct evidence of performance in the workplace. Assessment Methods used include: Site Observations, Oral Questioning, Written Questioning and Witness Testimonies. There are no formal examinations.

Progression Opportunities

Completion of the Level 4 qualification allows progression to a Foundation Degree in a related discipline within South West College.

Entry Requirements

City and Guilds do not stipulate academic entry requirements. Learners should, however, currently be employed within the construction industry and have a Level 3 qualification in their vocational area or five years' relevant practical experience. International students must meet the general entrance requirements for admission to any College First Degree, Foundation Degree or Higher National Diploma. English language requirements for international applicants is Academic IELTS 6.0 with no band score less than 5.5. Trinity ISE – Pass at Level 3 also meets this requirement for Tier 4 visa purposes.
