The Level 2 Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations is used as the competency (practical) element of the apprenticeship framework and aims to build/assess a range of fundamental practical engineering skills necessary for access to a broad range of engineering activities within local industry.

Course Content

Learners will need to complete three mandatory units: Working safely; Carrying out engineering activities; Using and communicating technical information. In addition, they complete a number of optional units including: Fabrication and Welding (Skills), e.g. Using manual MIG; Producing platework components; Hand fitting techniques; Using MMA; Using thermal cutting equipment. Gold: CAD; CNC; Using Hand Fitting Techniques; Assembling and testing fluid power systems and PLCs; Maintain Electrical Devices; Food Hygiene (optional); Welding (optional). Gold Screening and Crushing: CAD; Maintaining Mechanical Devices; Hand Fitting; Assembling and testing fluid power systems and PLCs; Maintaining Electrical Equipment/Systems; Welding and Thermal Cutting for Repair.

Assessment Method

A practical based qualification requiring a wide range of skills to be demonstrated in the College's advanced workshops. Knowledge is, in the main, provided by a City and Guilds Level 2 Diploma or BTEC L3 Diploma (Gold).
