Course Content

The course combines a mixture of mandatory and optional units. Learners will study four mandatory units plus optional units that provide for a combined total of 90 credits. Mandatory units include: Investigating the Travel and Tourism Sector The Business of Travel and Tourism, The UK as a Destination and Customer Service in Travel and Tourism. Optional Units, which could include: Marketing Travel and Tourism Products and Services, Preparing for Employment in Travel and Tourism, European Destinations, Working as a Holiday Representative; Investigating the Cruise Industry and Tour Operations.

Assessment Method

The course is assessed internally, all units are coursework based and will be assessed by College staff. A range of assessment methods will be used such as written tasks, worksheets, oral discussions, presentations and group work.

Progression Opportunities

By achieving the full Pearson BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism at the end of the two year programme you can progress to study at a higher level, for example, the Ulster University Foundation Degree in Science in International Hospitality and Tourism Management, which is also offered at South West College. Employment opportunities that may be available include working as a Travel Agent, Visitor Attractions Team Member or Tour Operator.

Entry Requirements

Learners need at least four GCSEs at grade C or above. Learners who do not possess GCSE English, Maths and IT upon entry will be required to undertake Essential Skills qualifications. Entry is subject to a successful interview.
