The Pearson BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Vehicle Technology is part of a GOLD Apprenticeship which also comprises of a IMIAL Level 3 (NVQ) Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Competence . The course is dedicated to giving the learner up to date knowledge of vehicle technology and be able to fault find on the main vehicle components and systems.

Course content L3 BTEC Diploma in Motor Vehicle Technology has a minimum credit value of 120 and includes the following elements: Unit 1- Operation of Vehicle Chassis Systems Unit 2- Vehicle Engine Principles, Operation, Service and Repair Unit 3 - Vehicle System Fault Diagnosis and Rectification Unit 4 - Vehicle Project Unit 5 - Applications of Vehicle Science and Mathematics Unit 6 -Electrical and Electronic Principles for Vehicle Technology Unit 7- Vehicle Electrical Charging and Starting Systems Unit 9 -Diesel Fuel Injection Systems for Compression Ignition Engines Unit 10 - Operation and Testing of Vehicle Electronic Ignition Systems Unit 11- Vehicle Engine Management Systems Unit 12- Operation and Maintenance of Light Vehicle Transmission Systems Unit 18 - Mathematics for Engineering Technicians

Assessment Method

These units have both practical and theory elements and the course is 60% theory based and 40% practical based. You will need to complete a written assignment for each unit which will include practical elements to the written assignment.

Progression Opportunities

Progression On completion of this course you will be able to progress onto the Higher Level Apprenticeship (Level 5 Foundation Degree) programme and then on to a full degree . What jobs can I get? This course steers you towards the academic route enabling future progression into Universities but still enables you to progress onto the apprenticeship programmes within the motor vehicle trade. Further study would lead to master technician status.

Entry Requirements

You will require a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C including English and math’s grades 9-4 (formerly A*-C). Alternatively successful completion of a relevant Level 2 qualification and have achieved a Level 2 Functional Skill in English and math’s.
