Description

The Level 3 NVQ in Domestic Plumbing and Heating is for learners who work within the mechanical engineering services sector and wish to become a qualifified plumber or heating engineer. Learners will be required to demonstrate the ability to perform the necessary skills and the knowledge required to be assessed against the National Occupational Standards.

Course Content

The learner will need to complete seven core mandatory units at Level 3 in Domestic Plumbing and Heating and a number of optional units. Mandatory units: Organise resources within BSE; Hot and cold water system installation, commission, service and maintenance; Central heating system installation, commission, service and maintenance; Understand and carry out electrical work on domestic plumbing and heating systems and components; Sanitation system installation, commissioning, service and maintenance; Install, commission, service and maintain Plumbing and heating systems. Optional units: Oil firing pressure jet appliances; Understand oil firing safety principles within BSE; Apply oil safety; Install, test, service and commission domestic oil firing pressure jet appliances.

Assessment Method

The course is assessed through a continuous series of competence based assessments during work placement and in the college in addition to online Evolve examinations. There are also four planning and design assignments to complete over the two year duration of the course.

Progression Opportunities

On completion of this qualification learners can progress onto the Level 4 Site Supervision and Management, the Level 4 Higher Professional Diploma in Building Services, or the Level 5 Foundation Degree in Construction.
