Description

The Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems And Equipment gives the recognised benchmark for a qualified Electrician. Apprentices would be full time employed with an electrical contractor across four main areas; domestic sites, agricultural sites, commercial sites and industrial sites.

Course Content

Year 1 attendance two days per week at college completing practical and theory of electrotechnical installation, and three days with electrical employer on site. Year 2 attendance one day per week at college and four days with electrical employer. Year 3 attendance approximately four days in college throughout the year for induction, guidance and assessment on portfolio building. Year 4 onsite assessments completed by College Assessors and completion of portfolio, also completion of AM2 Practical/Theory test which is a 2/3 day practical undertaken at a NET assessment centre.

Assessment Method

Assessments include: on-line Evolve multiple choice questions, practical assessments in the college workshop, written assignments which will allow learners to research materials and practices for inclusion, written answer questions testing their knowledge and on-site assessments.

Progression Opportunities

Progression onto Level 4 and Level 5 Building Services and Electrical Engineering qualifications which could offer the opportunity to be a Site Supervisor, an Electrical Estimator, Designer or Technician. Other avenues for progression include; Renewable Energies, Inspection and Testing, Lighting Technician, Government Agencies (NI Water, Roads Dept., etc.) or NI Electricity.

Entry Requirements

Learners must be at least 16 years and have a minimum of 16 points at GCSE, including Grade C in English and Maths or Level 2 equivalent in Essential Skills (Numeracy and Literacy), be physically fit, not have a colour vision deficiency and be able to work in enclosed spaces and at height.
