Description

The Level 3 Diploma in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair covers complex faults in lorries and coaches. Learners will be taught how to diagnose faults using the correct diagnostic procedure. They will have access to state of the art technology with grade 1 tutors. This course includes the most up to date technologies in the Heavy Vehicle sector. This is a City & Guilds qualification recognised in over 300 countries. Learners will gain status as a fully qualified Heavy Vehicle Mechanic.

Course Content

Units of study include; Skills in health, safety and good housekeeping in the automotive environment; Skills in supporting job roles in the automotive work environment; Skills in materials, fabrication, tools and measuring devices used in the automotive environment; Skills in diagnosing and rectifying heavy vehicle engine faults; Skills in diagnosing and rectifying heavy vehicle chassis system faults; Skills in diagnosing and rectifying heavy vehicle auxiliary electrical faults; Skills in inspecting heavy vehicles using prescribed methods.

Assessment Method

The units will be assessed by the gathering of work-based evidence into a portfolio. The authenticity, sufficiency and validity of the evidence will be judged by the assessor. There are also five online independent tests which require a pass mark of 60%

Progression Opportunities

This course leads directly to a career in the Heavy Motor Vehicle industry. Successful learners will be fully qualified mechanics recognised in the sector. Higher Education engineering related courses would be the appropriate next step, e.g. the Level 4 Certificate in Advanced Automotive Diagnostic Techniques or a Level 5 Foundation Degree in an engineering discipline.

Next Step
Entry Requirements

This course is suitable for learners progressing from NVQ Level 2 HVR or mechanics currently working in the motor industry with minimum five years' industrial experience. Learners will have to undergo an interview to establish an aptitude and desire to work in the heavy motor vehicle industry.
