Description

Pearson's BTEC Level 4 HNC Diploma in Health and Social Care programme provides opportunities for learners to apply their knowledge and practical skills in the workplace. The HNC may be offered over a two year period (one day), or a one year Fast Track (two days) in College plus 25 days of placement to provide minimum of 200 hours. Management reserve the right to enhance the criteria depending on the demand for the programme.

Course Content

Learners will study five mandatory and three specialist units. Mandatory units: • Communicating in Health and Social Care Organisations; • Principles of Health and Social Care Practice; • Ensuring Health and Safety in the Health and Social Care Workplace; • *Personal and Professional Development in Health and Social Care; and • Working in Partnership in Health and Social Care. Specialist units are selected from areas such as: • Safeguarding; • Counselling Skills; • Physiological Principles; and • Psychology or Social Policy. *200 hours employment or placement activity is required.

Assessment Method

In order to demonstrate achievement, learners typically undertake assessment activities that include essays, reports, presentations, case study, portfolio and video work. In order to judge the level of achievement, assessment criteria is used for the Pass, Merit and Distinction grades.

Progression Opportunities

Learners may be able to progress to the first year of undergraduate study in a relevant area. Alternatively they may choose to go directly into employment in the health/social care profession.

Entry Requirements

Learners must possess either: BTEC Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care or a related Level 3 subject area, or two A Level passes or equivalent, together with three appropriate GCSEs, including English Grade A-C or Level 2 equivalent. Refer to general entry requirements. Access NI Enhanced Disclosure clearance is required.
