Description

This course is intended to equip you with the knowledge, understanding and skills required for success in current and future employment or for progression to final year of relevant degree programmes. The HND in Sport provides opportunities for learners to apply their knowledge and practical skills in the workplace. You will have access to specialist resources and excellent teaching. Learners have the opportunity to complete CYQ Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing in Year 1.

Mandatory units: Anatomy and Physiology for Sport and Exercise; Health Promotion; Nutrition for Sport and Exercise; Physical Activity, Lifestyle and Wellbeing; Research Project; and Training and Fitness for Sport. Specialist Units: Analysis of Sports Performance; Event Management and Principals of Sports Coaching; Exercise for Specific Groups; Field-Based Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise; Functional Exercise Physiology; Physical Education; Sport and Exercise Psychology; Sports Coaching; and Work-Based Experience.

Assessment Method

To demonstrate achievement, learners undertake assessment activities that include a series of tasks or assignments reflecting typical practice in the sectors concerned. Assessment methods include reports, presentations, case studies, portfolios and video work.

Progression Opportunities

Learners completing the HND course can proceed towards further academic qualifications e.g. final year of relevant degree programmes, professional qualifications and/or employment within the sport and leisure industry.

Entry Requirements

Learners should have qualifications equivalent to 140 UCAS Points and/or MPP at BTEC. Four GCSE passes or equivalent including English and Maths. Refer to general entry requirements. International students must meet the general entrance requirements for admission to any College First Degree, Foundation Degree or Higher National Diploma. English language requirements for international applicants is Academic IELTS 6.0 with no band score less than 5.5. Trinity ISE – Pass at Level 3 also meets this requirement for Tier 4 visa purposes.
